2005 RCM annual Report silver nickel damage

Post by CalicoJack » Mon Oct 10, 2022 4:44 pm

Good afternoon all. I thought I would put up a (once) beautiful RCM coin I have.
This is my 2005 selectively gold plated victory anniversary nickel sent out in the 2005 RCM annual report.
This silver coin had the Victory V plated in gold with a brilliant silver field and beauty cameo.
Now it sits in my scrap pile.
I contacted the Mint twice in regards to the issue, and have yet to ever get a response.
With no Mint help, my only conclusion is that it must have been stored in a plastic flip or something that contained a large content of PVC, which reacted to the gold plating.(and to the coin as a whole).
Note the V looks like it's coloured which is weird... that was for the 2020 commemorative.
The colours are very strange, as they are relative to the 2020 vrs.
Anyway...
I thought I had seen it all when it comes to modern CND nickels but here we are.
Enjoy
