Old corroded Canada Token? Can you Identify It?

Post by Darrell.Fluet » Thu Sep 28, 2017 11:25 am

I found this old token(?) recently but I cant tell what it is, and any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

It seems to be made of copper or bronze but that's a guess.
It also seems to have 4 coats of arms around he front face, or maybe three coats of arms and a crown at the top?
There is lettering around the outside but I cant read it.
The opposite side is badly corroded and I really cant make out anything on it.

Any ideas?
Darrell

If there is nothing on the back, it's possible that it is
an old military button. Just a guess though.

I take it that the coin is bronze or copper, not silver? It is not a Canadian token. You can see on one side a Coat of Arms with shields L, R, & below and a crown at the top. I think that it's European, maybe German States, Austrian States, Italian States, Swiss Canton .. probably 17th or 18th century. If I get a chance, I'll look at some of my 17th & 18 century Krause ... it's definitely not a Canuck Provincial token

It has markings on the back, but they don't come out in pictures. The coin is very flat, thin and has no attachment points like a button would have. If I cant identify it then its not worth much so I may just try cleaning it up. Any idea how to go about that? I will check the numismatist sites for ideas, although their first comment is always 'don't clean it'

Its about 2.5 cm across and weighs 3.4 grams, which might help identify it.

I think bill is onto something... it's not Canadian that's for sure... the second I saw it I thought it might be a 1 or 2 ore from sweeden. I have a feeling this is copper but place of origin I'm not exactly sure of...

try on google for a reverse image search and see what pops up

to me the image looks like 3 shields at E, S & W with a crown at the N and a center design of something but of what I'm not sure.

as for cleaning it... I would recommend using vasoline and a toothbrush... might be able to loosen and get some of that corrosion and crud off.
