St Andrews trade dollars

Post by Mzeyl » Mon Aug 23, 2021 5:07 pm

Very exciting series to collect. Lots of varieties. Wondering if anyone knows what/who the off metal strikes were created for from 2005 to 2009?

Also not sure if allowed or not but in search of 2006 gold plated and bronze, 2009 argenten(nickel) snd 2016/17/18 silver versions.

Aren't these just merchant tokens to advertise their town or stores in NB? There is a series of them? Or do they just strike a few thousands new every year a little different?

Yes they are a municipal trade dollar/token. Started in 1976 and have released a new token every year since with some years have several varieties. Some mintages are in the thousands and a few varieties have mintages in the 20 to 50 pieces range.

Update I have found the 2006 Gold Plated and Bronze and the 2017 Silver.

Down to three pieces to continue searching for
2009 Argentan with a mintage of 2900 pieces, 2016 silver with a mintage of 20 pieces and 2018 silver with a mintage of 30 pieces.

The journey has been fun to date!
