Fake or authentic?

Post by rescuerob » Fri Oct 18, 2024 1:49 am

I came into procession of this coin but am wondering if anyone knows how I can authenticate this coin, or use it as a paperweight?

Since some of those coins have sold for over $100k at large auctions, I would be very wary of the authenticity. I couldn't find any place to ID the specifics and the photo blurry. And there are dozens of them on Ebay from China from $15 to $250. Buying something from China for a "steal" nowadays really spells trouble.

Thank you Bill

How would I authenticate this coin then? Send it to PCGS or NGC? How about a local coin store in Calgary? Any suggestions?

Cheers Rob

I would say a local coin store. If it is silver, then it's worth about $20, with a TPG being 2X or 3X times what it is probably worth. Do some google searches and look at the bridge of the nose, the physical lettering and the surface or field of the coin. Don't send it in.
