2006 canadian penny

Post by rongeorgedreher » Tue Nov 03, 2020 12:23 pm

This penny looks like a matte proof coin on both sides but that doesn't make sense.sorry about the sideways pic's
first post, not sure how to rotate.i had to pull the pictures from a different email address.anyway not sure what machine this coin was rolling around in but it looks like silver or aluminum.the coin is 18.59mm in diameter and 1.42mm thick. it weighs 2.0 grams.i found proof silver sets from 2006 but the pennies were all 95%steel, copper coated.this coin is also non-magnegtic

WElcome to Coins and Canada

That is a 2006 business strike that was made from copper plated zinc which is non magnetic.
The thick rims and smaller diameter indicate that is either an early stage dryer coin or someone has deliberately
removed the copper from the rim.

Agree with Coinguy, it’s also the first step in making a hollow penny.
