1891 Canada Large Cent

How do you tell the difference between a 1891 large date from a 1891 small date? Is the lettering different or something other than the date? Thank you.

The Large date has a flat top on the ball of the 9, the small date has a rounded ball on the 9

The inner portion of the upper loop also is more like an open circle. Comparing side-by-side, it's easy to see the difference.
