mangled 1939 penny

Post by duffa01 » Mon May 10, 2021 11:41 am

i got this penny out of an auction, looking for opinion as to whether it is a bad mint strike, or perhaps someone just hammered it out on a whim. it is super thin, baffling, but fun to look at.

Are your pictures backwards or is that the way the coin is.
Also do you have a weight for it?

Then it looks like someone has tried to create there own coin by hammering or squeezing two coins onto a blank planchet. It certainly wasn’t struck that way at the mint.
