I picked this coin up at a yard sale for $3. The toning caught my eye, also I think this coin is clipped and has a broken vine. What do you all think? Is it worth more then $3 ?

Not an expert on mint errors, but the edge is damaged on both sides and the pressing of the details does seem to have been there, but is now squished - if space was missing at press, there should be space between the dents. Thus, looks post mint damaged IMO. The coin has some nice relief, but it looks cleaned and/or dipped, as it has a rather dramatic and uniform pink toning that looks like maybe it was put in ketchup or acid dipped. The open areas appear shiny relative to areas around the raised parts. It does have broken vines - see the images in CAC coins of the 1859 - as many do.
Curious to see what others might say.

Hi CunuckCoinGirl. Thank you for your input. There is a Blakesly effect on the obverse side at 4 o'clock, and it is 180 degrees from the clipped side. I also love the toning, I just think it's cool.

Every single 1859 had a broken vine at 7 and 13, with the one at 7 starting very small and growing as the matrix suffered more damage and then one at 2 starting about 2/3 of the way through the year.. I've never see toning like that before, so I doubt if it's natural. I have looked at 10's of thousands of 1859's and it's not right. The coin's a keeper and worth more than $3 just as an oddity. I'm not much on clips so I can't sy yes or no, but it looks PMD to me.
