1948 CAD cent...

Post by CalicoJack » Thu Oct 27, 2022 4:01 pm

What are we thinking here? PMD, planchet issues, or ?
Obv. looks like an alien face-hugger on backwards!
It's a nice colour though.
Cheers!

Wow! I'll wait for answers on this one. It looks like a die did the "bandit" part or maybe the planchet got partially injected, on accident, into a different die. I'm a large cent guy and lost with this.

It has to be damage of some sort, especially with part of the rim missing.
There is nothing in striking of a coin that would cause that.

It is quite unusual. One thing for sure is that this coin has seen things... On the Reverse, the missing part of Canada doesn't seem to have been scraped or gouged away, but the lump clearly has some N stamped on it. And the C seems to be folded! Now the Obverse?... who knows! I am on the side of PMD but it sure is cool to puzzle over. And fun to post, and create dialogue! Cheers

Yep, likely PMD but fascinating.
