1948 One Cent - Possible Error

Post by exportedcanadian » Sat Oct 12, 2024 2:30 pm

Hello,

Below is a picture of a 1948 Canada One Cent I found while looking through an old Whitman Coin Book. The bottom of the 8 looks squished.

Looking for some assistance in determining if this is an error made at the mint or deformation that occurred through wear and tear.

Thanks!

That couldn’t happen during the striking of the coin so it is damage.
Looks like it has taken a hit flattening the bottom of the 8

I'd would have to agree. Doesn't look like mint error. Most likely PMD or straight up wear and tear after all the coin is pushing almost 80 years old. Did you check it for the A points to a large Denticle? 48 and 49 have potential high vaule
