1 cent 1947 with error

Post by vovoppe » Tue Dec 31, 2024 12:54 pm

I found a 1 cent 1947, looks like there is an error at the tip of the "7". Anyone can validate if this is the case? What would be the value of that cent?

Welcome to the forum

That is not an error, it is damage from being struck with something.
It is only an error if it happens during the actual striking of the coin in the coining chamber.
Anything that happens to it once it has been ejected is considered damage.

Thank you very much for the info!
How do you make a difference (visually) between a damage and an error?

I explained this in my first post. Also if you are just getting into coin collecting, then I suggest
you not waste your time looking for errors until you know what an actual error is and know the
minting process. Also you will have to know the difference between a variety and an error.
It is very rare to find an error as an error is usually a one off unlike a variety that could have
hundreds of thousands of the same minted. This is not something you are going to learn overnight,
it takes a lot of studying of coins to be able to tell the difference in seconds.
A good way to learn is to read previous postings on this and other coin sites to see what other people
have posted and the answers. A good site to learn about errors is error-ref.com
If it is not listed on this forum, then it is damage. There are no "new" errors
