Newfoundland One Cent 1876 - No H Mint Mark - A curiosity

I got this in an auction purchase and only noticed the anomaly when I went to photograph it to resell it on ebay.

I guess someone could have taken a tool to the mint mark but I don't see much evidence to that end, coin in hand. I'd be happy to hear comments on it.

top of right line of U is partially erased like the bows above UN. i'd say it was removed by someone. these coins were made at the Heaton Mint and no die without the H is known
