The only explanation I can think of would be a grease filled die, neat coin though.

Thank you, I have not heard of that before. It would be cool to get a tour of the mint to better understand the process. I'll have to see if there is a "how its made" episode on it.

Your picture reminded me of a 63 double beaver nickel. Nice!
