2003 5 cent Die chip on Date (was accumulation)

Post by motoole » Sat Oct 07, 2023 10:34 am

(Edited as I now believe Die Chip is a better description for this variety)

Hi folks, just looking for more opinions whether this 2003 5 cent I have found was struck earlier in the mintage than the example pictured here: https://www.numicanada.com/medias/piece ... canada.jpg

My reasoning thet it was struck earlier is that the die chip appears in the same location (on the zeroes of the date) as the above example just not as pronounced.

That's not "acculation", it die deterioration.

Okay thanks, that makes more sense to me as "crud" accumulating on the die would leave an indented feature instead of the raised features in the photograph.

Thanks again,

Mike
