Brand new to this hobby and decided to look at the coins in my change. I found a 2008 Nickel with a dot near the beavers nose. Talk about luck! Unfortunately I am now hooked and look at my coins constantly.

That is what is known as a die chip. The chromium plated dies get a pin head sized chip
that expands with the constant striking of the planchets and form small circles. Every coin
struck after this occurred would have this chip on it.
