1943 Newfoundland DIme with either PMD or MD , Help Determine Please

Post by PortPunk » Tue Jan 14, 2020 9:31 am

Hi, I am new to this forum and needing some help on two types of damage I see on a rather nice coin.

I will post pictures and you will first see the strike thorugh between the 9 and 4 and secondarily the accumulation of metal above the 1 AND 3. Any information or insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for your kind responses PortPunk

The 9-4 mark is a gouge from something sharp striking the coin in circulation. Without seeing the coin in hand, I'd say the 1-3 "extra" metal is either die deterioration or a slight hub doubling (a term I use from the older days). The gouge reduces any premium that the coin may have had and the "doubling" really added nothing.
