2010 Raised flag error and varieties

Post by Gerryinthe6ix » Sat Oct 30, 2021 6:54 pm

As I went through a dozen 2010 Canadian Dimes with the raised flag variant, I noticed there are three types. They either have a no strap on the flag mast, a single strap or a double strap. I’m guessing the dies are in various states of decay. Anyone else spot the straps?

You will find similar discussion here (in french).

You will see that the Raised flag is not only with the 2010 version.

The origin of this variation is more related to the Hub that produced the working dies.
A progressive degradation of the Hub can produce few Die variations.

Something similar happened with the 5 cents 2012 where the K of K.G. has a broken leg.

The only way to produce such error is with a Damaged Hub.

I have since confirmed this waving flag error is also noted on 2011 and 2012 dimes. A few 2012s exhibit a dual flag (normal and up on the same coin).

Here is my dual flag version. It's as if the flag was pushed up PMD but I have numerous examples.
