Hey guys

I came across this 2000 no P Canadian dime with a mat finish I couldn't find anything about it online.
As well it looks like it could be off center strike ? I'm not sure and I'm hoping you could take a look and give me your thoughts

Thanks

It is really hard to tell from the photo - could the matte finish you are seeing really be a result of just a lot of little nicks to the surface? It does not look like a true RCM coin that has a finish like that. There are some acids and bases that could be added to give a bit of a matt look too, but it is hard to tell from your photos.

These are very hard to track down at this point, but I love these for showing the different finishes that the RCM uses: https://www.mint.ca/en/shop/coins/2020/ ... n-set-2020

The RCM matte finishes from RCM are usually very distinct and your coin does not seem to have that.

No it's a very clean not very worn and I'm thinkn of possibly a stamped on a silver planchet becouse I put it on a scale and it weighs 2.3 grams it should be 1.9? Thoughts ?

Thoughts ?

The coin has many nicks on the rim and your images indicates many small scratches on each side. The reeded edge looks rather worn in places. The 2000 dime without a P - no letter or the W - should be just over 2 grams, not less than that. Doesn't seem to have or be anything special to my eye.

Also, if it looks really clean, that lends more to the idea that it was cleaned with something that made it look more matte to your eye, as it would damage the surface of the coin.

I would have to disagree becouse under magnification you can see some small nicks but you don't see scratches it looks like it's imbedded in the planchet I'm thinkn maybe from the metal being stretched from being stamped perhaps?
and please forgive my incompetence I am still learning
Thanks

I am very glad you are learning. That is most excellent.
The coin clearly has circular wear and marks - this could be from using something to clean it- think a toothbrush or cotton swab that was making circular motions, or just rotation in a pocket - I've psuedo coloured where I see this on a few sections of the coin. There are many tiny nicks over the complete surface of the coin, and large chunks out of the rim. The wear on the edge is clear from the non-circular look of the coin overall and how it is showing more shallow reeding on the edges. This is a coin that has been around.

A coin that is minted to have a matte appearance is more uniform in it's overall look. The dies may have been acid etched to get the more frosted look that is not shiney. Do see the set link I posted. There are some coins for comparison that have a true matte from the RCM.

Looks like a regular dime with circulation damage. Does it stick to a magnet?
A silver dime would be of proof quality finish.

Yea it does stick to a magnet.? So that rules out that, it being silver then ? Hmm.? Well I'm stumped ? Well I'm going to hang on to it then and not spend it I kinda like it . Thanks guys
