In 1973, to commemorate the centenary of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the RCM struck commemorative quarters that feature a “mountie” on his horse holding a flag. The back side of the coin (obverse side) featured a smaller, more detailed effigy of the queen. Millions of these coins were minted but about 8-10 thousand were struck with a the back side of the 1972 quarters. These sought after coins sell for anywhere from $150-$600, depending on condition.

Whoever wrote the paragraph that started the thread needs to get his verbiage together. The Obverse is NOT the back side of the coin ... the mountie is on the back-side or Reverse. Your coin looks like a large bust portrait, but I wouldn't call it a "mule". Go to the pricing section of this side and see what a large bust is, supposedly, worth. The prices they quote are well more than what it is actually worth.

The large bust RCMP quarter is one of the most over rated variety Canadian coin types, there are just many examples produced if you paid 200 to 300 dollars for a MS 63 example, 20 years from now it would still be 200 to 300. Part of it"s popularity is the RCMP design, that"s the only reason this coin sells at auction, compare to same time period the 25 cent medallion mule, it rarely sells at auction. The 2000 P Caribou mule is rare, seen only 2 owned by one collector.
