1992 PEI Quarter w/ boils on Queen

Post by Gini » Fri Jun 12, 2020 8:34 pm

Found this in my pile the other day and was wondering if anyone has seen a similar error or if it might be some kind of acid damage.

Not an error, some sort of damage. Possibly acid as you suggested.

FYI-
It is only an error if it happens during the striking of the coin. Anything that happens to the coin after that is considered damage.

Yeah my bad, definitely post-mint damage by crazy glue I suspect. I was confused by the pattern of metal loss and how solidly attached the bubbles were. A bit of orange-sol took off some of the contamination, the metal loss must be from a combination of the glue temporarily protecting areas of the coin from wear before slowly flaking away and the sulfonic acid in the glue pitting the nickel in places. Thanks for confirming!
