1973 Quarter Doubling

This 1973 quarter has a significant amount of doubling. The ground, horse legs and both dates.

Without the coin in hand and just by the photos, I think that it's mechanical/machine doubling. It happens when the die, just a nanosecond after the strike slightly moves where it drags alittle amount of the planchet metal and leaves what looks almost like a shadow. The closer to the edge of the coin, there will be a little more offset. The offsets won't necessarily be the same on all of the design.
