2022 die chip error + ?die crack

Post by Draconius » Fri Sep 01, 2023 9:35 pm

Hello all, I've been collecting coins since I was young, but only started seriously looking at my change for errors and other interesting things. I was given a bag of couns to deposit in the bank, and I happened to find this die chip on the coin, along with what appears to be a die crack (though it could be PMD), both on the obverse. My amateur opinion is that the chip is pretty visible considering i dont have any magnifiers with me, and it is visible at a glance. I haven't seen any information about any errors on 2022 quarters, so I believe this will be the first report of one. Has anyone else seen this error? Would someone be able to estimate the rough value of this coin as well? Thanks! (Apologies for the bad pics, I only have a phone camera for this)

Welcome to the Forum

FYI, that is the reverse you show, the queens head is the obverse.
You are correct in saying that is a die chip, but it is not considered an error and has no added value.
They are quite common and don’t forget, every coin struck after the die chipped would show it so
there could be thousands out there the same.
That other mark could be a small plating bubble, hard to tell but is insignificant. The mint run their
coining machines for business strikes at high speed where quantity takes priority over quality so minor
anomolies of no value are sure to occur.
If you are interested in errors, suggest you spend your time looking for major errors which most of the
time you don’t need to magnify to see.
error-ref.com is one of the numerous sites that you can study to see what true errors are.

Trust me my friend you will never find an other coin like that. Not possible. Its a very nice coin, you should keep it
Also, Canadian Mintage is ALWAYS, of quality first, never quantity

Everything that you've shown adds no value and there may be millions of them out there. Just like nails and booby pins and thumbtacks, the manufacturor is set up to produce as many as possible, not make them look as nice as possible. If you look closely at ANY coin produced here in the last 20 years, you will find anomalies , not perfection. If you want to keep the coin as a curiosity, then fine, but it's only worth a quarter and never be more.

These people truly know nothing of cointage, or maybe just jealous and wish they would maybe woop it off of you, if you put it back in circulation and they stumble upon

Im not sure of the PMD, be we can clearly see at least 5 Nazi Effigies on the neck of the deer.I wouldnt think of sellin it for a thousand bucks

Ya lol millions of them they havent minted anything close to that
