Mark on a 50 cent coin

Post by lifeline coins » Wed Nov 27, 2019 1:18 pm

Hi everyone, I'am a newbie to coin collecting and very very very green! If someone could help me with a question I have about a mark under the date 1952 on my 50 cent coin. I would much appreciate it. The picture of the coin will explain. Thanks

Whatever it is, it shouldn't be there. Can you post a closeup of that area only?
It seems to be in the shadows and is hard to make out any detail.

It looks to me like it has taken one or two hits with something round.
You can see some displaced metal. Unless you were there at the time,
it is hard to say exactly what caused the damage. Only thing for sure is
that it did not happen during the striking of the coin so it would be classed
as PMD (Post Mint Damage) not an error.

Hi coinguy

Thank you for clearing this up for me, I have learned a lot and I agree with you it is PMD, I can see that now.
Much appreciated! lifeline coins :)
