1969 Dollar, is this a die chip or a dot

Post by RLD » Fri Nov 01, 2019 3:52 pm

I could not find this chip/dot in the list of errors and varieties for the 69 dollar. Does the shape or location have anything to do with the difference between dot vs chip?

That is a die chip. You won't find them under the errors or varieties as they are common and can happen
anywhere on any coin so they would be too numerous to post. The location has nothing to do with the
difference between a dot and chip although a dot is more likely to appear on the Fields of a coin whereas
a chip can appear anywhere.
