1989 Loonie with a "6" cut into the Obverse

Post by themcintosh » Thu Jan 28, 2021 10:12 pm

Hello there,

First time poster, long time collector. I don't know what I've got here, I don't imagine it's anything besides a mistake or someone goofing around but the quality of the 6 shape cut into this Loonie is quite good, to the point that it makes me wonder if it happened during the creation of the coin somehow, to mark it as a placeholder or something. If anyone has any comments or information, I'd love to know more!

That is called a counterstamp certainly not uncommon.
Someone with a punch set has for some reason stamped a 6 on the coin.
This is considered damage.

Welcome to the forum. I agree with coinguy, but how do you know it’s not a 9? :P
