Re: 1972 voyageur dollar
To me, it just looks like die deterioration. Or maybe just wear or a weak strike.

Re: 1972 voyageur dollar
Hi Bill, no wear on coin. It's from a proof set from sealed package.
Re: 1972 voyageur dollar
They are not different from normal.
The obverse picture you posted from this site for comparison is actually a 1973 obverse.
1972 obverses are like yours, the change to a modified obverse did not start till 1973 .
There were no proof sets back in 1972, yuor coin is from either a PL set or Specimen set.

Yes sry, pl set. The grey pic is a snapshot from a 1972 voyageur off coinsandcanada page.
Re: 1972 voyageur dollar
It's not a 1972 dollar obverse in their picture, it's a 1973, they made a mistake.
There are quite a few similar mixups on this site

Perhaps die deterioration and weak strike
The image of your coin is is twice the size of the reference photo which can cause an optical illusion

Re: 1972 voyageur dollar
You didn't bother to read what has been posted.
The reference photo is of a '73 coin, the OP's is a '72.
There is no comparison, the reverse design was changed in '73.

Re: 1972 voyageur dollar
Agree 100% with TBH.
The photo from Coins and Canada is a 1973 dollar, not a 1972 so yours is the correct portrait for a 1972.
In 1973 the mint redesigned the Obverse with a slightly smaller portrait of the Queen.
If you showed a full photo of each photo, you can see the difference.
