1908 Mint Set

Post by DRGingras » Mon Oct 19, 2020 9:32 pm

Hi I am wondering if anyone has any feedback on this 1908 Mint Set. I bought it at an estate sale for a reasonable price. Any thoughts on its possible value?

If its a true specimen set they trend at $5,500.00 Canadian in the 2019 Charlton Catalogue with large or small 8 on the 5 cent piece. A treasure to own.
EDIT: You might want to also look at the Cent and look for DDO

The obverse lettering on the word Gratia - REX on some Mint State coins I don't know for sure if Specimen coins had it but worth a look

DDO means repunched somewhere on the Obverse. The 1908's were the first ones minted in Canada, and I think that they wanted things to look nice. As such, you can find any of the digits in the date slightly repunched as well, especially the 8. Look for any repunching on the Obverse legend, especially Gratia which seems to be repunched on many large cent dates.
