Grading cents

Post by redcent » Thu Mar 04, 2021 3:56 pm

How are higher grade (ms 60+) one cent coins affected by full red to red/brown? Can a mostly brown cent be limited as how high it can be graded? Thanks in advance.

A brown cent can still be graded ms70, the colour is designated after the grade. A full mint red cent will hold greater value with collectors because that’s how it looked when it left the mint.

Look at your own collection, you will have far fewer, if any, red cents compared to brown, which makes them rarer, and rarer equals greater value in any coinage.

I think ICCS will only grade a R/B up to MS 63. Anything graded higher has to be red.
A brown coin only gets graded as MS60. Maybe someone can correct me on this if I am wrong.
Not sure about some of the other TPG’s

You may be right coinguy, as I have never sent a coin to be graded. I am going by what I have read on PCGS about grading and colour, strike, surface, etc.

Thanks for the input, I would suppose then, that each grading company has their own standards on this.
