Does doubling on a coin increase its value?

I have an older Looney 2012 and it has nice doubling but the coin is a little damaged

It depends on what kind of "doubling" that you are talking about and how much is the offset. If you can't see it with bare eyes, it normally won't increase in value

Thank you I cannot see it with the naked eye but with a loop or microscope I can

There are different types of doubling, some worthless, some with a bit of premium.
What type do you have?

Although some will say that the coin is actually "doubled" because of the split serifs, I think that it looks like Machine or mechanical doubling. It's caused by the dies being a little loose in the keepers. True repunched or restruck doublings most time DO increase the value, but your dollar has little added value. Keep it as an anomaly.
