1935 $100 French

Post by coinme » Wed Nov 16, 2016 7:05 pm

I have a 1935 $100 French note with serial number F00540. This seems low to me but the book only seems to give a premium for 500 and under while other notes have a premium for 999 and under. The book does say - even in the section for 1935 - that any note under 1000 usually have a premium. any thoughts on whether this note would carry a premium?

Thanks all.

How nice to have.

My dream is the 1935 ~ $500 in both French and English. Unfortunately the budget will never allow this privilege.

Regardless of the book, I would think there would be at least a little bit of a premium even if the number is over 500.

You may wish to contact Charlton's to ask if this is a printing error. They do have some errors in some books and the frustrating part is they reprint the same error year after year.

You might also contact ICCS in Toronto for their opinion.

It is important to remember that if there is a premium it is based on an UNC and that the premium drops as the grade of the note drops.

If you check page 383 of the 2016 Charlton's Paper Money book the Value Guide does give a good indication of how much it drops.

Where did you get the note?

What grade is yours? If you get a chance please post a picture of it.

Cheers

I suggest you to get it certified.

Personally I would not bother to get it graded.

The majority of collectors that I know and sell to prefer ungraded notes. I prefer ungraded.

I am not sure what area you live in "coinme", however if you are in a major centre just take it to 2 or 3 dealers and ask their opinion. If you are in Regina, Calgary or Vancouver I can give you a few names for an honest opinion. I might also have a contact for you in Montreal and can possibly check Winnipeg for you.

Just be careful becuase if they are too keen to buy it from you they will naturally give it a lower grade.

Also remember that should you decide to sell it that if you are a private seller you usually will not get as much as a dealer can sometimes get.

This is a good note that is relatively rare so in certain areas there could be a very good demand for.

You just need to know the buying market.

Please post a picture. I would like to see it.

You can also send me a PM.
