1954 wrong cut 100$

Post by Mary007 » Mon Mar 01, 2021 2:04 pm

I have this 1954 100$ and I believe it can be worth something because of the way it was cut. I’m from Montreal I don’t know how to get it evaluated and I’m willing to sell it. Anyone would have an idea of it’s value? Plz look at the photos the back in cantered but not the front

The bill was cut right as the back is centred. What happened is that the front was printed off register.
There is no premium for this unless the copy runs off the end, in fact it devaluates it as collectors like
to have the white borders even all around.

Hello! :)

What is the size of your note? Anyone can cut a bill to do this.

It is a rather strange looking note, But momomomo how do you cut the border off the face side but not the back side???
the other thing that jumps out at me is how the border on the front side seems fairly even on the three sides. if the note was printed out of register that much should not the border on the right side be overly wide????

The printing on the front is larger than that on the back so the borders are thinner.
Being just slightly out of register would move the printing close to the edge.

Had to dig out my 54 to compare , What I noticed then is that the two printings front and back are out of line high and low are they not? At least the note I have the back print is vary close to centering on the front print. the note here back is way lower and has a very large top border.
Just some oddity with the note Mary007 not that this gives your note any more value.

I work at the bank I know this bill is not fake. You can see the wear on 4 corners are the same so no I did not cut the edge. I will take a picture of it next to another bill of the same year tmrw and post it and we will compare. I just know that sometimes when the printing is off it could add value because it makes it rare, but I could be wrong. Thx for the help everyone. Does anyone know of a place I can sell it?
I really appreciate everyone s input on this :)

I don't know how to go about it or what it cost to do ,But ebay seems like a place to sell things. I've seen some stuff sell for crazy prices there.
I'm hoping we will soon be able to start going to shows and sales in person to see and buy notes like yours. thanks for showing it to us, Good Luck.

My impression from the photos is that this banknote has not been altered. These types of printing errors do happen. Unfortunately the error is not significant enough to command a premium and at the same time it is off centre enough to be distracting and unappealing to a collector.

Mary007 you can offer it for sale here in the buy/sell/trade forum. You can also try ebay but I suspect the fees will consume the small profit that could be realized. However, there is a massive audience on ebay so you never know.
Good luck and thanks for sharing.
