Hi all I was at a friends house recently and found a 1954 two dollar bill with no serial numbers . We did some checking but only found vague mention of another such bill from back about ten years.
Is this bill I found counterfeit or some odd error from mint . The numbers have not been washed off or erased. I tried to attach a pic but kept getting file too large message I’ll keep trying to get a pic attached but wondered if anyone knows about such bills

Missing Serial Numbers can occur in any denomination.
Unless the bill is in uncirculated condition, it is hard to prove whether it is an error or a modified bill.
Grading companies will not verify that it is genuine if it has been circulated.
Would still like to see a photo though.

The mint produces coins, currency is produced by Canadian Banknote Co. or British American Banknote Co.

All of these bills missing serial numbers look like they have been through the war (or washing machine) it defies logic that these bills would see so much wear before someone would notice the uniqueness and rarity of genuine missing serial numbers.

Sorry but that bill is in such poor condition that it would be impossible
to determine if it is genuine or altered.

I would suggest a very high probability that the serial numbers have been removed, but as others have stated it is difficult to say 100%.

Thank you all. It is a mystery to us as well. I myself can’t see why some would remove the serial numbers. If it was to try and create a rare bill it seems to have failed and put it all in doubt. And looking at the bill, if this was done, it was done a very long time ago and to a few two dollar bills and a couple one dollar bills that I have heard of.
Well I like a good mystery and will keep searching.
