1954 $1.00 *BM replacements With No FPN

Post by Hounddog » Fri Mar 31, 2023 1:07 pm

I just recently became aware of the serial number range listed for the 1954 *BM replacements with no FPN (front plate number) as being 0341119 - 0447035.
The following notes fall outside this range by a considerable amount making them either anomalies (wishful thinking) or the range should be extended ( most probable).
I'm not sure to who or how this info should be reported for inclusion into the sites data.
Perhaps the range should be 0324999 - 0458035.

Cheers, Bill

According to the Charlton catalogue, the range for B/M replacement notes are
0000001-1159710 and 1761631-4300666 for a total of3698751 so you are in that range.

Hi coinguy, appreciate your reply.
I must apologize I had failed to emphasize that it's the list for notes with no FPN that requires updating.
Presently this list is noted as between 0341119 - 0447035 and the notes I found are outside this range.
Charlton, has no information on the number of notes with no FPN, they merely state in the quantity printed column "included" meaning they are included in the 3,700,000 estimated *BM replacements printed.
The range referred to above is established from a high/low list that is exclusively for notes with no FPN.
I corrected the original post and title for clarity.

Cheers, Bill

I'm sure it's possible but then you would also remove the green microprint which is clearly visible in the close ups Bill has provided above. I believe the position numbers are printed along with the design of the note (first pass/phase). It would be much easier to remove the serial numbers as they were applied after the design of the note was printed (2nd pass/phase) though usually you can see some damage to the microprint as well. I've seen bleached notes with this kind of post-production damage.

I have tried to attach a document I found back in 2020 regarding 1954 $1 NFP serial number range. Juat in case it didn't attach ( computer stupid ) the range for *BM is
Lowest observed without FPN *BM 0320855
Highest observed without FPN *BM 0476595.

The Documnet lists all other NFP number prefixes and serial number ranges as well.
I like collection them all !

Regards

Dan
