back in the day Charlton referred to original and modified tints
now there is no reference to this
the difference is quite noticeable

Hey 8)

I think it refers to the color on notes not being washed up by sun, washing machine...

The printers also used different tints on the 1954 ONES.

Some collectors may have wanted an example of both. I'm not sure but the tints definitely vary on the 1954 ONES. (And they weren't washed). The SCWPM made a big deal about BABN notes & CBN co produced notes. They even listed them separately (smaller premium on BABN) & yet I never met a collector who cared about which co printed either.

Then we saw Charlton list them separately in a similar fashion. Perhaps it's a result of US collector interest? I don't know.

Later, we also saw a lot of hoopla over "big B" vs "small B" on the 1986 Birds $2.00 prefixes. I know of a few collectors who get exited about these but its very niche. I think that the "Missing Circle" 2001 Journey $10 had a better following than either of the above distinct tint variation (or the $2 odd prefixes).

Compare the E/N to the F/N later (lighter) version:

I agree, i have gem 1954's $2 with different tints. Could it be ink pigments.
