$10 bill issue of 2005 but printed in 2004??

Post by LittleMooMoo » Thu Jan 02, 2025 10:53 pm

So, I have this $10 bill that says printed in 2004 but it it the issue of 2005. But, I have the same bill which says issue of 2005 but printed in 2007. I don't understand why the bill would be printed before the issue date. If anyone could help that would be great

(I don't know how to attatch an image so click on the google doc.)

Don’t have Google so I can’t open your picture but I might be able to answer your question.
The official day of issue was 18 May 2005. The printing date of these bills started in late 2004
so they would be ready for issue on that date. The printing date would change with each year.
It is similar to coins. 2005 coins would be minted in late 2004 to be ready for release in 2005.

Ok, thank you soooo much. I forgot to ask, but would it be worth anything more than face? If it is, then I'll sell it on eBay.

Value depends on condition , signatures and prefix so a picture of both sides is required

That is a common prefix series with 50 million printed.
The value in uncirculated condition is about $15.00 so if it is circulated
it would only be worth face value.

The dates imprinted on the bottom of the reverse sides of both the original Canadian Journey & the upgraded (security strip) series is what made this last paper issue so much fun & interesting to collect. No other series from the Bank of Canada had this info printed on the banknote with such full disclosure. No other series had so many strange year, or signature, or prefix change-overs PLUS short & lost (final) prefixes. And, finally, but most importantly, no other BoC series had such rampant counterfeiting issues (forcing the central bank to finally turn to polymer).
