Hey all, there was a recent flood in my area and hundreds of my 1945 Victory nickels are rusting or contaminated with rust from the metal safety box, is there a good way to rid the rust without damaging the nickel-chrome plating even more ? I have tried soaking a batch in a diluted solution of CLR and another batch with Evapor-Rust and the solution turns black in a day or two and then brush them individually with a toothbrush, I will change the the solution every 2-3 days until the rust is all gone. I think I will sell most of them leading up to this Remembrance Day on eBay.

Your coins unfortunately are toast.

Once they start to rust it attacks the surface.
What you have are face value coins. The good thing is that they were not
too valuable to start with so it cuts your losses.
