Hello. I am not really a collector as such, but I do have a few bills and coins I have kept over the years. I just received 10 $1 bills from 1973 and I don't see the SN prefix in the registry and I am wondering on their value. They were purchased just as the dollar bills ended their printing, and have been kept uncirculated and in excellent condition. I have not had them graded professionally, but from what I have gleaned on this site, I would grade them at CUNC and above. I am not looking for a locked in value, but more of a value range. The SN Prefix is AMU and the numbers start in 9943461 - 9943470. Is this anything special, and what would an approximate value be on each vs the complete set? Not sure how to insert an image here, so if that is needed, I would appreciate some tips on that. Thanks in advance.

I just discovered your thread after reading the site's admin's update on coinsandcanada site daily "Discussion Board" maintenance.

In the future, I suggest you post your questions about paper money in the appropriate Discussion Board section: Canadian Banknotes
viewforum.php?f=5

You can also find the info on the site's "Bank of Canada" under > Banknotes tab (2nd from left/next to Canadian Coins tab.
https://www.coinsandcanada.com/banknote ... id_denom=2

For 1973 $1.00 notes with a regular prefix (like AMU) the price range for UNC60 is $5.70 & for UNC67 is $64.10. Top row of the pricing panel is for regular prefixes. Hundreds of prefixes & billions of 1973 ONES were issued. No catalogue could list every prefix but instead show prefix ranges or, in the case of Crow-Bouey $1.00 notes like yours, they may have "Crow-Bouey 3 letters" & there will a separate table for all the prefix ranges.

I feel that these prices are a bit optimistic b/c prices realized are dependent on a number of factors (& new hoards of 1973 ONES are found everyday). For one, anyone paying $64.00 for a GEM UNC67 would probably be paying that after a bidding war & for a particular prefix (& possibly nifty serial number/repeater or radar) that meant something to them in a PMG holder. The price for most ungraded 1973 $1.00 notes is about $5.00 or less & if sold in a run of ten (like yours) most collectors would expect a discount (like $35 for 10).

Hope that helps answer your question!
