1983 one pound coin

hello,
i have a 1983 one pound coin with "upside down " writing on the edge of the coin...decus et tutamen..is this true?
they are on ebay which raises my suspicion

You don’t give much information. Where is the coin from?
Also could you post either a photo or twelve digit ID number so we can look it up.

its a british one pound coin 1983
12 digit id #?
its a thick coin with writing on the edge
some people are claiming its a error claiming the lettering is upside down

What do you mean about the upside down writing on the edge. Do you mean where the reeding is or the edge of the Obv or Rev design?

OK, I looked at the coin for coins that have actually "sold", not what they were listed for.; They sell for between $2 and $10:

OK, now I know what you are referring to.
It is not an error, the edge writing is put on at a different process from when the coin is struck.
It is fifty fifty as to which way it reads so there is no extra value either way.
