1871 PEI one cent die axis varieties

Post by maxmoe » Tue Jul 28, 2020 4:05 pm

Charlton and coinsandcanada.com have opposite pricing/scarcity information. Charlton shows the medal variety ^^ as the more common of the two but coinsandcanada shows the coin axis ‘’ as the more common. Anyone know which is correct?

The Charlton is wrong. I believe they were informed of this years ago but as far as I know they haven't changed it although I don't t have any of the newer catalogues. I have three of them and they are all coin axis so that should tell you the catalogue is wrong.

I have 11 of them and all are coinage, so that's not the scarcer one. Charlton is wrong once again.

Oldest one I have handy is 2018 (Charlton), it was corrected at least a couple of years ago (indicates UP/UP rarer of the two varieties).
