1975 Canadian 1 Cent All Zinc?

Post by Finspotter » Sun Jan 02, 2022 9:38 pm

I have owned this 1975 Canadian all-zinc 1 cent coin for most of my life and didn't think much of it until now. It's not a steel cent because it's not magnetic. It's as shiny as a nickel. See attached photos. I have searched everywhere online for the same and I came up empty. Can someone tell me if it's something special?

Dimensional-wise, both are exact. Weight-wise, I can't tell. See more pics...

Is it plated or washed with something, like maybe chrome? Have you tried to gently scratch the edge of the coin to see if it's solid?

That would be my guess as well, someone has made changes to the coin after it left the mint.

tin is often used to silver-plate coins. just a dip and it does the trick

what's the weight? looks like dipped. not a wrong planchet

Many years ago, I scratched the surface just above, and to the left of "19." It doesn't show darker copper underneath. I am not disagreeing with the video/comments below. Just hoping for something special.
